Qualifications:
- Master’s in School Counseling or Master’s in Counseling from an accredited university
Supervises:
Essential Job Functions:
- Develops, manages, and delivers a comprehensive school counseling program
- Provides direct services through the Guidance Curriculum, Individual Student Planning and Preventive and Responsive Services
- Provides program management, system support and accountability
- Establishes the school counseling program and develops activities and resources to implement and evaluate the program
- Involves other school staff in making decisions about the school counseling program
- Provides individual and group counseling services to meet the developmental, preventive and remedial needs of students
- Consults with students, parents, teachers and other school and community personnel to assist in meeting the needs of students
- Coordinates all counseling services for students and assists with the coordination and implementation of student services in the school
- Assists teachers and conducts professional developments on the guidance curriculum
- Interprets test results and other student data accurately
- Assists teachers with the educational placement of students by using appropriate educational assessment strategies
- Adheres to ethical standards of the counseling profession and abides by the laws, policies and procedures that govern schools
- Participates in professional associations and upgrades professional knowledge of skills when needed
- Supports initiatives such as PBIS and MTSS
- Serves on the Student Support Team
- Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

Counselor job classification within Hoke County Schools. Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
Must be able to:
- Prepare, read and comprehend a variety of job related forms, reports, spreadsheets, maps, plans, records, documentation and correspondence in all languages required by the job
- Understand and conform to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style
- Speak to individuals or groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence
- Respond adequately to inquiries or complaints
- Write using standard convention in all languages required by the job
- Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form
- Communicate effectively and efficiently in all languages required by the job using whatever communication device or system is required (telephone, Braille)
