- A bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field and eligible to obtain a school social

Supervises:
Essential Job Functions:
- Provides services to the school, home and community
- Helps students and families make the best use of available opportunities and resources and to fully develop each student’s individual potential
- Provides direct/indirect services to students and their families through various methods such as consultation, classroom presentations, groups, referral/interventions, etc.
- Provides the necessary professional skills to assist students and communities in problem solving and conflict resolution in a safe and healthy manner
- Assists parents in utilizing school and community resources to help children maximize their educational abilities
- Coordinates services with community agencies and other disciplines within the school
- Coordinates various prevention and intervention programs and services
- Participates in referrals, placements, behavioral modification plans and case studies
- Provides individual and group counseling, case management, home visits and assessments
- Serves as liaison between school, family and community
- Assists with home visits, as appropriate
- Adheres to the National Association of Social Workers code of ethical behavior and professional practice
- Models professional behaviors that contribute to addressing the needs of students, families and the school community
- Keeps abreast of current community resources and determines how these resources may be beneficial to the student, his/her family, and the family’s involvement in the academic process
- Understands, and abides by, federal, state and local laws, such as child protection/child abuse, special education, attendance, education rights and privacy
- Consults with school personnel to encourage compliance with laws, statutes and policies
- Practices professional renewal through attending regional and national conferences, participating in professional organizations and remaining abreast of current research and literature
- Expands and exchanges knowledge through consultation with coordinators, specialists, psychologists, counselors and other colleagues
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
Physical and Cognitive Requirements:
The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to the School Social
Worker job classification within Hoke County Schools. Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
Must be able to:
- Prepare, read and comprehend a variety of job related forms, reports, spreadsheets, maps, plans, records, documentation and correspondence in all languages required by the job
- Understand and conform to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style
- Speak to individuals or groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence
- Respond adequately to inquiries or complaints
- Write using standard convention in all languages required by the job
- Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
