Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED or higher
  •  3+ years of experience and/or training in repair and preventive maintenance of motor vehicles and repair equipment.
  • Must possess (or, be able to obtain within 30-days) a valid NC Class-A Commercial Driver’s License – with all appropriate endorsements.
  • Must possess (or, be able to obtain within 45-days) valid certification in:
    • NC Motor Vehicle Inspection
    • NC School Bus Inspection

None

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Operates, maintains, and repairs all departmental equipment and vehicles as directed by Shop Supervisors.
  • Implements, manages, and engages in preventive maintenance for all school system vehicles (school buses, activity buses, service vehicles, staff cars, & staff support vehicles and equipment) as assigned.
  • Efficiently and effectively coordinates with appropriate staff to:
    • Participate in consistent scheduled vehicle maintenance routine
    • Ensure necessary parts, supplies, equipment, and personnel are available to execute routine in a timely, productive manner
  • Monitors and reviews all NCDPI maintenance reports and work orders (TD-18) to ensure:
    • Compliance with vehicle maintenance protocols
    • Quality control; to include coded accuracy of parts/supplies utilized for BSIP data
    • input.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and consistently observe procedural compliance with all OSHA requirements.
  • Recognizes, evaluates, and determines any/all departmental needs (equipment and/or repairs)
  • Collaborates with Shop Supervisors on:
    • Working with Cost Clerk to identify and obtain parts and supplies
    • Inventory use of parts ordered and stock room maintenance
    • Parts procurements, as well as any/all invoice issue reconciliations
    • Issuance/Receipt of parts and charges to TD-18 repair work orders
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director and Shop Supervisors.

 

Physical and Cognitive Requirements:

The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to the Mechanic job

classification within the Transportation Department of Hoke County Schools. Work in this classification is considered heavy physical work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally and up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

 

Must be able to:

  • Walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch and lie down
  • Work in various inside and outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, job hazards and atmospheric conditions
  • Use visual acuity required for depth perception and color perception
  • Visually inspect small defects and/or small parts
  • Use a variety of measuring devices
  • Assemble or fabricate parts and materials
  • Operate all machinery and necessary equipment associated with fleet maintenance operations
  • Determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work
  • Observe general surroundings and activities
  • Hear sufficiently to accurately perceive information at normally spoken word levels
  • Use communication by means of spoken word to express or exchange ideas
  • Observe, effectively communicate, productively collaborate with, and objectively direct and evaluate all supervised departmental personnel
  • Safely work in situations of exposure to blood borne pathogens
